Warum der Umweg sich lohnt
This space inside the Pskov Kremlin was the political stage of the republic: the citywide veche chose officials, called or dismissed princes, debated war and peace, and approved laws. On January 13, 1510, Moscow ordered the assembly abolished and its bell removed, turning the square into the scene of Pskov's lost independence.
Veche Square, located inside the Pskov Kremlin, was the heart of political life in the Pskov Republic. It is historically significant as the site where the city's independence was lost in 1510.
