The west bank, where Bangkok still runs on canals. Houses stand on the water, and the temples make the postcard less often than Wat Arun.
Why go
Take a boat on the khlongs in the morning, before the heat. It is half a day off the BTS, not a change between malls.
Where to stay
A quiet night and a long taxi in the morning. Worth it only if you want the canal, not the station.

- Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen — Wat Paknam Bhasicharoen is known for its large stupa and bronze Buddha statue.
- Khlong Bang Luang — A local floating market along Khlong Bang Luang with historic wooden buildings and art exhibitions.
- Wat Rakhang — This royal temple on the Thonburi bank is named for a great bell found here under Rama I, and it was home to the monk Somdet To.
