Why it is worth the detour

One of the few surviving forts from Bangkok's original city defenses later became famous for the long struggle over its neighboring historic community.

Mahakan Fort is an octagonal fortress built in 1783 as part of Bangkok's original defenses. It is one of only two remaining forts in the city and is notable for its historical significance and the long-standing community that developed around it.
