Why it is worth the detour
Before demolition, this roughly 900-year-old village housed about 5,000 local residents and more than 15,000 migrants in a maze of rental buildings. A three-year dispute ended when the final holdout house was demolished in August 2013; Yuxu Palace remained as the sole old structure while the clan halls were reconstructed together beside the new residential towers.
Yangji Yuxu Palace and Ancestral Hall Square is a hidden gem in the Yuexiu District, known for its historical significance as the last remnant of a 900-year-old village. The site offers a unique glimpse into the past, contrasting with the surrounding modern residential towers.
