A shrine where the rivers meet

Shimogamo, Demachiyanagi
Shimogamo shrine stands in a grove where the Kamo and the Takano meet, with Demachiyanagi beside it. This is the quiet north, not the Kiyomizu slope and not the Shijo shopfronts.

Shimogamo shrine and the bank at Demachiyanagi.
Come by day, while the grove is open. The evening stays by the river at Demachiyanagi. The shrine itself closes earlier.
Worth it if you want quiet in the north. The station is far. Higashiyama is the same eastern edge, but downstream.

The shrine is inside the grove, not on the embankment. Demachiyanagi is the station and the river south of the gate.
