Cathedral and the Alcazaba
Centro
Calle Marqués de Larios, Plaza de la Merced, Calle Alcazabilla
The old centre and the Alcazaba as one walk: the cathedral, the Roman theatre under the fortress and the Museo Picasso Málaga by Plaza de la Merced. Gibralfaro is on the same hill, not a district of its own.

The cathedral, the Roman theatre by the Alcazaba and the Picasso Museum on Plaza de la Merced, with Gibralfaro on the same hill.
Come in the morning, before the cathedral and the Alcazaba grow a long queue. After lunch Calle Marqués de Larios is already under awnings.
The best base for a suitcase: flat, and close to the cathedral. The port is a walk downhill, Soho is across the Alameda.

The cathedral, the Roman theatre and the Picasso Museum on Plaza de la Merced are one level walk. Gibralfaro continues the same hill above the Alcazaba, and the port promenade is the way down, not these streets.
