Why go
Come at sunset, when people walk the mole. At midday the quay is hot, with none of the cathedral shade.
Where to stay
A night makes sense for the water. The Alcazaba is a climb in the morning. A suitcase is calmer if it stays in the centre.

From the cathedral go down to the port and stay on the quay. The Palmeral is the palm walk under the Alcazaba, and La Farola is the lighthouse at the outer end of the same promenade, while the old streets stay uphill.
