Come toward evening, when the tables open along the canal. By day this is a working bank, not the first walk.
Where to stay
Worth it if a late dinner by the water matters more than stepping out to the cathedral. The Duomo is about twenty minutes on foot.

Toward evening the tables come out onto the quay; by day the waterside is quieter and the old wash-stones are visible. Vicolo dei Lavandai is a short dead end on the canal: if you only watch the bridge, you walk past it.
