The left bank: Getreidegasse, Salzburg Cathedral and Hohensalzburg on the Mönchsberg. The fortress is part of the same walk, not its own district. Hellbrunn stays outside.
Why go
Walk Getreidegasse in the morning, while the street is still empty, then up to the fortress. In the evening the cathedral square is left without the courts.
Where to stay
Worth a night if Getreidegasse should be on foot at opening. The right bank is across the bridge. Hellbrunn is a bus, not a night. Do not haul a suitcase up to the fortress.
