Nevsky Prospect, Griboyedov Canal embankment, Fontanka embankment
The avenue from Kazan Cathedral to the Anichkov Bridge: shops, churches in a line, and the crowd that is the street’s actual content. Turning off is worth more than walking it to the end.

The stretch of Nevsky from Kazan Cathedral to Anichkov Bridge: cathedrals in a line, the shops and the crowd itself.
Come by day to see the city put itself on display. Late at night it is signs, not architecture.
Sleeping on the avenue itself is loud. A block behind it works: Nevsky is a door, not a pillow.
Fedor Samorodov · guide
Walk the middle of Nevsky and keep moving. At Kazan Cathedral turn onto the Griboyedov embankment, at Anichkov Bridge onto the Fontanka: the side quays hold the district better than the far end of the avenue. In the evening the shop windows work; in the morning you see the facades.
