    Saint Petersburg State Institute of Technology

    On October 13, 1905, about forty factory delegates met in the institute's physics auditorium and formed the Saint Petersburg Soviet of Workers' Deputies. The improvised strike committee became a new model of revolutionary authority that would return with far greater force in 1917.

    Lived and worked 1866–1890 in the university apartment inside the Twelve Collegia (now the Mendeleev Museum-Archive), where he developed the periodic law and wrote Principles of Chemistry.
