Hongik, Yeonnam and the clubs around them. Coffee and small shops by day, music at night. This is the young bank of the Han, not the palaces.
Why go
Afternoon for coffee, after ten for the music. There is no reason to come in the morning.
Where to stay
Worth it if the night matters more than dawn at the palace. Jongno is across the city.

Yeonnam-gil is quieter than the clubs by the station. The clubs sit closer to the university exit.
