Morning out to the grottoes, before the promontory fills. The castle is easy on the way back.
Sleep on the promontory if you want the castle at the door. The grottoes are the walk to the tip. South of the peninsula the suitcase stays behind.

The castle stands at the entrance, and the whole road onto the promontory passes it; Santa Maria Maggiore is in the first lanes behind the walls. The Grotte di Catullo are at the far end of the long cape, not in the castle courtyard: you walk out to the tip.
