Vake runs west from the end of Rustaveli along Chavchavadze Avenue. Plane trees, embassies, the university and restaurants that do not need to call anyone in off the pavement. Vake Park climbs by stairs from the avenue. From the upper part of the park a cable car goes to Turtle Lake.

Chavchavadze Avenue, where the city eats lunch away from the Old Town shopfronts, and Vake Park with the ride up to Turtle Lake.
This is a day without postcards: a long lunch, the park and, if you still have the legs, the lake. On summer weekends the lake takes half the city. A weekday is quieter. In the evening the quarter keeps to itself.
For families and for anyone staying more than a few nights who wants trees and quiet. The metro does not reach the heart of Vake. Getting back to the Old Town after dinner means a taxi or a bus, and the day has to allow for that.

The heart of Vake has no metro. Count the ride back after dinner separately. On a summer weekend, leave Turtle Lake to people who like a crowd.
