    Clock Tower

The tower began as the bell tower of Vyborg's cathedral, rising within the fortified town whose churches and houses stood behind the wall attacked in 1495. It survived the transfer of Vyborg from Sweden to Russia after the 1710 siege, later becoming both a clock tower and a fire lookout while the adjoining cathedral fell into ruin. Ravelin Gate

A traveller leaving eighteenth-century Vyborg had to pass the Friedrichshamn Gate, cross the ditch onto a detached ravelin and then go through this second stone gateway. A new highway cut through the fortifications in 1865, leaving the former military approach as a quiet pedestrian route where the old defensive choreography is still legible.

Originally painted in several colors like opened fans, both disappeared in the Soviet period and were reconstructed by the Finnish Pro Monrepos association in 1998 and 2002, this time in white.

    Temple of Neptune

The pavilion began as Nicolay's Temple of Piety, containing a figure of the Roman goddess Pietas with a child; only later did a statue of Neptune move inside and give it its present name. The decayed original was dismantled in 1948, a 1999 reconstruction burned in 2011, and the temple was recreated yet again in 2018.

    Battery Hill Water Tower

Built in 1930 as the largest water tower in Finland, this severe brick landmark represented the technical ambition of modern Finnish Viipuri. It survived the battles of 1939, 1941 and 1944 while many neighborhoods below were destroyed, yet the reconstructed Soviet water system made it obsolete almost immediately after the war.
