Mein Kampf
After a failed coup in Munich in 1923, Hitler was sentenced to five years in prison but served just over a year. During his imprisonment, he dictated the first volume of Mein Kampf, his autobiography and political manifesto.
Final days in Berlin
On 29 April 1945, as Soviet forces approached, Hitler married his longtime partner, Eva Braun, in the Führerbunker in Berlin. They died by suicide the following day to avoid capture by the Soviet Red Army.
