Vienna eventually gathered many of its musical immortals into one extraordinary neighborhood of graves: Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and both Johann Strausses lie close together in Group 32A. The arrangement creates a posthumous composers’ salon, while Strauss II’s monument adds carved dancers, a Danube mermaid and a bat recalling Die Fledermaus.

Prague: Hotel Central — Kraus gave readings here in 1911 and 1913, with Kafka documented in the audience on at least one occasion.
