After graduating from the University of Southern California in 1967, Lucas moved to San Francisco and co-founded American Zoetrope with filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola. He later established Lucasfilm.

Lucas founded Industrial Light & Magic and THX. Through Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, he was involved in the production of many major American films before selling Lucasfilm to The Walt Disney Company in 2012.
