Why it is worth the detour

This compound occupied the former Qing viceroy's headquarters attacked by Huang Xing's force during the Huanghuagang Uprising. In 1925 it became the seat of the National Government, but later rebuilding erased almost everything except the ceremonial gateposts—a thin architectural survivor linking an attempted revolution to a government born from it. This site was once the headquarters of the Qing viceroy, attacked during the Huanghuagang Uprising. It later became the seat of the National Government, with only the ceremonial gateposts remaining as a historical link.
