Why it is worth the detour

Behind an ordinary lane entrance, Huang Xing and fellow revolutionaries established the command post for the April 27, 1911 assault later known as the Huanghuagang Uprising. Weapons were reportedly carried into this Qing-era house inside wedding chests, while surviving stone lions preserve marks associated with the fighting. The March 29 Uprising Headquarters Memorial Museum is a hidden gem where Huang Xing and fellow revolutionaries planned the 1911 Huanghuagang Uprising. The site features historical artifacts, including stone lions marked by the fighting.

    Former National Government Site

This compound occupied the former Qing viceroy's headquarters attacked by Huang Xing's force during the Huanghuagang Uprising. In 1925 it became the seat of the National Government, but later rebuilding erased almost everything except the ceremonial gateposts—a thin architectural survivor linking an attempted revolution to a government born from it.
