Why it is worth the detour

German merchant Anton Borchardt built this stone house in 1653, with a wine cellar where drinking and business were deliberately mixed: agreements with town councillors were traditionally sealed over wine or with a liquid gift. The restored building preserves the memory of a port city whose German, Swedish and Finnish-speaking merchants negotiated as enthusiastically as they drank.

The Borchardt House is a historic stone building from 1653, showcasing the vibrant trade culture of a port city where German, Swedish, and Finnish merchants mingled. It offers a glimpse into the past with its restored architecture and unique history.
