Citizen's House
This tiny tower-shaped dwelling, concealed inside a courtyard, is one of Vyborg's rare medieval private “fortresses.” Its thick boulder walls and cellar show how an urban household could resemble a defensive post in a frontier city repeatedly threatened by assault. Bank of the Nordic Countries Building
Its original Swedish and Finnish inscriptions advertised the multilingual commercial world of imperial-era Vyborg, while the banking hall was designed almost like a temple with the vault occupying the place of an altar. Since 1945 the former financial palace has housed a public library, turning a monument to private capital into a Soviet and Russian repository of books.
