    The citadel above the meeting of the Pskova and Velikaya was the final defensive core behind Dovmont’s Town. In March 1299, after Livonian knights ravaged the suburb and besieged the fortress, Prince Dovmont led the Pskov forces that defeated them in what became his last campaign.

    Pokrovskaya Tower

    This enormous corner tower became the focal point of Stefan Báthory’s assault in September 1581. Artillery shattered the tower and adjoining wall, but defenders counterattacked inside the ruins and expelled troops who had already gained a foothold.

    Snetogorsky Monastery

    In March 1299, Livonian knights suddenly attacked and burned this undefended monastery, killing Abbot Joasaph and seventeen monks along with other refugees. Prince Dovmont drove the raiders away the following day, making Snetogorsky a grim surviving setting for one of the frontier republic's defining crises.
